The Arch Of La Défense

On the initiative of French President françois Mitterrand, was declared an international competition for the design of arches, which symbolize the ideals of humanism and humanity, as opposed to, for example, the triumphal arch, which symbolizes military victory. The competition was won by Danish architect Johann Otto von Spreckelsen, and in 1982 work began on the erection arches, which lasted 7 years.
The Arch Of La Défense
The arch of La défense is a nearly perfect cube (width 108M, height 110m, depth: 112M), its towers lined with glass and Italian marble. They house government offices. At the top is the exhibition centre, reachable on the elevators, as well as to panoramic tower, offering stunning views of Paris.
